Product Introduction
Furfural, chemically named 2-Furfuraldehyde (CAS No. 98-01-1, EINECS No. 202-627-7, HS Code 29321200), is an organic compound with the molecular formula C5H4O2 and a molecular weight of 96.08. It appears as a colorless, transparent oily liquid when freshly distilled. The liquid gradually turns dark brown upon contact with air and emits a characteristic benzaldehyde-like odor.
Furfural has a melting point of -36℃, a boiling point of 162℃, and a density of 1.16g/mL at 25℃. It is slightly soluble in cold water, but soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether, benzene and other common organic solvents. This compound features high chemical reactivity. It can undergo oxidation, reduction, condensation, substitution and ring-opening addition reactions under specific conditions. It is widely used as a key intermediate in chemical synthesis. Furfural is primarily derived from the hydrolysis and dehydration of pentosan in plant fiber raw materials, such as corncobs and bagasse. It can also be produced via artificial synthesis.
Key Applications
