Biochemical Research, Organic Synthesis, Lubricants, Surfactants It is used in the manufacture of man-made fibers, polyesters, textile auxiliaries, PVC stabilizers, paint driers, surface coating resins, as well as in the processing of behenic acid, erucamide, etc. Erucic acid and its glycerides can be applied in the food industry or cosmetics manufacturing industry. It is also used in the production of surfactants (detergents).
Application Fields Erucic acid, also known as cis-13-docosenoic acid, exists naturally in the form of glycerides in various vegetable oils and some animal oils. For example, mustard oil contains 40-52%, pennycress oil contains 49%, rapeseed oil contains 35-55%, sea kale oil contains 59%, and cod liver oil contains 10%. In the seeds of plants in the Tropaeolum genus, its content can be as high as 80%. It should be noted that erucic acid has a low digestibility and is metabolized poorly in humans and animals. In rapeseed breeding, its content should be reduced to below 1%, and the contents of oleic acid and linoleic acid, which are beneficial to the human body, should be increased. From a molecular structure perspective, this product is a long-chain unsaturated fatty acid composed of 22 carbon atoms. It is also the longest carbon-chain natural fatty acid that can be provided in large quantities industrially, with the characteristics of being non-volatile and easy to condense. The double bond of this product is not conjugated with the carbonyl double bond, and it can undergo some typical reactions of internal olefins, thus having been widely used in industry. (1) After hydrogenating the double bond in its molecule, saturated straight-chain docosanoic acid, namely behenic acid, is obtained. Behenic acid and its derivatives are widely used in the plastics industry, metal manufacturing industry, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, and cosmetics industry.
